Sheila and her wedding party travelled to the church in the massive party bus they had contracted for the special day. Upon arriving to the church they were all giggly and elated to finally arrive and anxious for the ceremony to begin. As they made their final preparation with make up, dresses, shoes, etc. the Maid of Honor realized that she had left the wedding rings at the hotel, which was approximately a 20-25 minute ride from the church. Immediately the glowing faces and smiles turned upside down and the Bride was almost reduced to tears until one of the members of the bridal party realized her mother had not left the hotel yet. After giving the mother hotel access to the Bridal Suite, the rings were retrieved and the mother was on her way; only problem was she wouldn't arrive for another 30 minutes, and the Officiant was ready to begin the ceremony, with or without the rings.
To make a "long story short," by the time the Officiant asked for the rings, the Best Man had both rings and presented them accordingly. The joy that emanated from the Bride's face, the confidence that exuded from the Best Man's, and the smile on the Officiant's face as he performed the ring exchange were priceless.
As the Wedding Director my role is to make things happen behind the scenes so the ceremony and reception flow smoothly for you and your guests. I communicated with the male bridal party members, specifically the groomsman on the end and let him know when the rings arrived, I would inconspicuously pass them to him, and he was to pass them down until it reached the Best Man. It was like watching dominoes drop. As I stood in the vestibule, I saw the rings pass through each groomsman's hand; the guests had no clue because they were fixated on the ceremony...
Voila! That's the gift of working behind the scenes...Every Bride must have someone who is going to be that Behind the Scenes "person." It can't be a family member; he/she will miss you coming down the aisle. It can't be a close friend; he/she needs to be there to witness all the special moments from beginning to end. It has to be someone who is not too emotionally connected, especially to your guests, so his/her focus is only on YOU and making your day memorable!
